The steering unit is the hydraulic component in the hydrostatic steering system, responsible for easy, reliable and accurate directional control of the machine.
It is mechanically connected to the steering wheel via the steering column and hydraulically connected to the pump and the hydraulic steering actuator.
How does the steering unit work?
Inside the unit there is a rotary distributor that directs the pressurized oil to the branches of the steering actuator based on the steering direction; and a gerotor pump that acts as a volumetric metering unit and releases an amount of oil proportional to the steering wheel’s turning angle.
In this way, the pressurized fluid provides the energy needed for steering, reducing driver exertion.
In addition, if an emergency occurs (e.g. pump failure or lack of pressurized fluid), the steering unit works like a manual pump, enabling the driver to control the vehicle in any condition.
Ognibene Power steering units can be completely customized. You may choose:
Gerotor pump displacement
Type of hydraulic circuit (open center, closed center, power beyond, load sensing)
Integrated valve type and configuration
Version, whether reactive, non-reactive or with switchable reaction
Our steering units can be installed in small and large vehicles (tractors, forklifts, material handling vehicles, industrial machinery, riding lawn mowers, street sweepers, etc.) and deliver a reliable performance and safe driving experience.
